When operators introduce a new technology into their networks, flexibility is the key to a smooth deployment and seamless scalability. In many cases, they would like to take a phased approach, starting small with network infrastructure that is easy to upgrade to higher capacity if and when subscriber penetration increases.
With its TD-LTE 6-pipe radio module, Nokia Siemens Networks enables this phased approach, providing unprecedented flexibility and significantly reducing site costs. The TD-LTE 6-pipe radio module makes it possible to start with a simple low-cost, 3-sector site configuration using a single radio module to cover three sectors. The result is up to one-third lower site costs compared with traditional 3-sector sites*.
When more capacity is needed, operators can scale to a high-capacity, 6-sector site configuration simply by adding one more TD-LTE 6-pipe radio module. With two TD-LTE 6-pipe radio modules, they can outperform traditional 3-sector sites to deliver 80% more capacity and 40% more coverage.

The Nokia Siemens Networks TD-LTE 6-pipe radio module was first launched in December 2011 and has been demonstrated at major events such as MWC 12 and CTIA 12. The new product is already in use with a number of TD-LTE operators including India’s Bharti Airtel.
